I have been thinking about getting one of these.

I think it would work great. I had wanted an offset smoker, Jambo, but I think this one will hold heat better and more efficiently.

Is yours black or is that brown?

Mine is metallic black but they do many custom colors. It is so well insulated that's why they can paint it with automotive paint. Offsets are good but they don't distribute the heat evenly (hot at one end, cool at the other).
It has a water pan at the bottom of that really keeps the heat constant and everything is so moist.
Pricey but really well made.

I have been having a lot of fun smoking and grilling this past year.

I'm currently grilling some pork steaks on a old .... Really old... Weber kettle.

Is yours the bbq Safe model?

Gotta have a Weber Kettle. We have 2 of them. One of them my wife found
when someone set it out for the garbage man. Just needed a new grate.
My Pitmaker is the Safe model. It is small but I fed 50 people last fall with it.
Make sure you buy the BBQ Guru control fan to go with it. it keeps the temp really constant.

I have gone through two Brinkman smokers and I think the bbq safe would be a good backyard choice.

I haven't ruled out the weber wsm though.

The jambo's and Langs, etc are nice but I'm not sure I need to heat up that much metal just for backyard use.

I really like the idea of an insulated cabinet.

I had a WSM for years. They work great and a lot of guys still use them.
Only drawback for me was in cold weather is was tougher to keep even temp.
Also hard to mop meat on lower rack. The Safe was a lot of money but I'm sure
glad I bought it.
