Default Triwire

Thanks for the reply Paul. You are actually the first person that I have heard that use triwire. Do you know if this is how PMC recommend that you should do (regarding my question how they actually do themselves at shows)? I don't use the brass jumper, I use Audioquest CV4. The downside (for me) with threewiring is that it becomes rather expensive if you want the same quality of all three runs...

Best regards,

Peter

Peter, I have never seen PMC's set up by the factory so I can't comment on their recommendation. When I demoed my speakers at the dealer, they were set up with single wire and the brass jumpers. They just had single wire set up so they could demo different brands of speakers. I originally bi-wired with one jumper since I had bi-wires with my previous speakers. Another dealer whom I trusted suggested I tri-wire so I did. I do like it tri-wired and prefer it but I did like the bi-wire also with the mids and trebs jumped.

I am definitely not an expert on the subject. You will most likely get the most bang for your dollars with the best single run of speaker cables your budget will afford and quality jumpers.

Of course it is best to listen with your own ears if you can. In the past, I have even purchased various used cables to compare and sold the ones I didn't like as much for about what I paid for them.

Best of luck with your choice of cables and speakers

Paul.......I use a single run of Kimber 8TC terminated with WBT Nextgen pure silver locking angled banana connectors on my PMC EB1i speakers. The jumpers are a continuous length of 10 gauge solid pure silver wire. The sound is fabulous.

Default Wires

Thanks Paul and Dan,

I think you are correct that the most bang for the buck is to go by the best single wire cables that you can afford. This was my first question on the forum but I am not a "cable" guy and I think there are many other things that are more important in order to get the best sound. My first priority is actually to upgrade my amplification. Currently I use a Hegel H200, which is actually a wonderful match with my OB1i. However, I have a rather large room and I would like to have a bit more juice, so I am looking a bit higher up the Hegel chain. The 1100 W Hegel H30 monblock is what I really would like to have, especially considering future speaker upgrades (IB2 i or MB2i if I win the lottery).

/Peter

Ok, let me share with my humble experience of using PMC speakers.

I've been owning my PMC Twenty 22 since the beginning of 2013.
Using them with the Exposure 3010S2 preamp and Exposure 3010S2 stereo power amp.
Well, I think I'll keep these speakers for a long time. They pretty well co-operate with my Exposure amplification and I do not feel anything to be changed in this tandem.
On the other hand, my setup is still being built - I am going to upgrade my cheap "childish" audio-gd NFB-11.32 DAC to a more serious DAC like Wadia 121 or something, which I believe will discover more of capabilities of the PMC.
Also, I am going to upgrade speaker cables which now are VDH CS 122 Hybrid.
From my experience with PMC + Exposure, I noticed that power cables make significant contribution to the sound. The PMC are capable to play in a quick and alive manner providing distinctive nuances of fast passages of base or drums. Correct power cables for the amplification make a big deal to reveal this strong property of the PMC.
At this point I have come to a conclusion that the optimal (price/quality) power cable set for "PMC + Exposure" is the following:
Exposure 3010S2 (stereoamp): Oyaide Tunami (or Oyaide EE/F-S 2.6) with Oyaide P079/C079 connectors
Exposure 3010S2 (preamp) Nanotec Systems GS 302 nano3 (or Oyaide EE/F-S 2.0) with Furutech FI-E35 Gold/FI-25 Gold connectors.

I've not chosen speaker cables for the PMC but I believe it will be Oyaide Tunami Nigo or some of VDH upper series cables.

Bit of a thread resurrection!

The lovely BB5is here fed by a pair of Bryston 14BSST2s after a Lyngdorf DPA-1.
Various sources, Marantz SA11-S2, Dell computer with upgraded soundcard, isolated Rega RP3 PS-24 with Exact, AKAI 4000DB.
Crossovers in the pre set much the same as passives after a lot of experimenting,
Room Correction now only makes a slight difference.
No fancy cables, bare Supra Classic as short as poss and regularly retorqued.

Fills the room with fantastic music every day.
