Dan, I can honestly say that I have Never been this happy with my audio system. It is a pure joy to listen to, each and every time I sit down on my couch. As time goes on the "break-in" gets closer to completion and the sound becomes more and more revealing. Just the other day, listening to a familiar disc, I was hearing subtle nuances from a High-hat that a drummer was hitting with brushes, I was in total awe.

I must admit that the Ayre system took many hours to fully blossom. The owners' manual stated 100-500 hrs of break-in and I now can appreciate that statement.
There are many reasons why I am in love with the Ayre products; one of them is that since I bought the "best" they make, I no longer think of upgrades. I am at the top of the Ayre "food-chain" with no where to go with their existing products. With McIntosh, I was always "thinking/pondering" a possible upgrade...ie c2300 to c1000 and Mc501 to Mc1.2Kw, etc. I no longer think about the equipment, I turn out the lights, and in complete darkness, just listen and enjoy the music ( no Mac logos to fixate on.)
I am in my "audio happyplace" The only possible upgrade now is a new "sound" room or upgrading my speakers. I'll stay put for now...my wallet is still exhausted.....

Lyle.......You certainly did it right with the Ayre products. You are correct about the constant dangling carrot in the McIntosh lineup.

I am happy to hear you have arrived at a place where your audio system brings you complete enjoyment. That's all anyone can ask for, and hope to get.

Yep, be patient. I don't know about the Ayre monoblocks but the KX-R preamp really blossomed over the 2 weeks I had the new, first unit in my system. I now have to complete the break in on a second unit which is black and is staying in my system....

Serge.......How unfortunate. You have to break-in a second new Ayre KX-R.

You feel my pain Dan? I know what it is capable of once broken in now and the waiting is the tough part. But once it breaks in...

Dan, thank you for asking how my system is progressing. It sounds like we both are in that "happyplace" we have been searching for. We both have completely changed our systems over the past year and ended up in the same place whilst choosing different paths. This is what our audio "obsession" is all about, we have found the "pot of gold' under the rainbow.......

Lyle.......Perhaps we will someday be able to audition each other's systems, and compare notes. It would be fun.

Lyle.......The new Ayre C-5xeMP universal player plays CD, SACD, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video (soundtrack only), and MP-3. Have you listened to anything other that CD and SACD?
