I really like the Musical Fidelity M6i and the M6500i. Both these amps sound beautiful. Full dual mono units with exceptional quality and sound.

Although you might have to go a little above 2k unless you look used.

Psy, my brother owns an M6i integrated & Clic network player which he really likes. They're definitely good value when you consider their power & build quality.

Just read the Stereophile review. Quite an impressive integrated amp at 150wpc and built-in room-correction abilities. Must be made in China at the price.

Question I'm Needing Some Advice

Obviously, the best way to go about shopping for a new integrated is to bring it home to listen to it.

I'm replacing a Unison Research modded Unico (modded by Chris Johnson at the Parts ConneXion, same person that did the mods for Underwood HiFi). The Unico died. I have been without an amp for about 3 months.

My budget is ~$3000, preferably less. I'd like to stick with a tube hybrid.

I'll have a chance to listen to:

1) McIntosh MA252 (a demo)
2) Rogue Sphinx v.3

Seriously on my radar, but no dealer anywhere close to me:

1) Pathos Classic One mk.iii
2) Pathos Classic Remix (based on the One, but has a few improvements, in addition to a headphone amp, and digital processing potential at an extra charge, the latter I won't likely use)

I've read a few user comparisons between the MA252 and the Classic One, with most favoring the Classic One. I've read very little in terms of user reviews of the Classic Remix. The Sphinx v.3 has been getting very good professional reviews, but user reviews are a bit more mixed, but it's half the price of the other options. Unfortunately, the Sphinx dealer's demo is down and it will be a couple of weeks, at least, before it's running again.

While I'd LOVE to audition either of the Pathos units, if I were to get it from Upscale Audio, I'd have a 60 day trial, but I'd be on the hook for shipping costs both ways to and from the Boston area if I were to return it. If there were a dealer near me, I'd be able to audition their demo with no penalty on my part. I can imagine that shipping costs to and from the Boston area wouldn't be cheap.

Anyone with any experiences with these?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

AnalogJ, welcome to AudioAficionado!

Have you considered Prima Luna?

While no tubes, if you are good with used, look for a Bryston integrated. Should find one around your budget. If you find one that includes the original bill-of-sale it will include the balance of the 20yr warranty, which is one of the best in the business. Their two most recent models made 100wpc and 135wpc and can be upgraded with an internal phono-stage and/or a DAC.

For a tube/SS integrated, I was very fond of my BAT VK-300xSE which makes 150wpc. Can be fitted with a very nice internal phono-stage. Again, a used one should fit into your budget and, like most high-end gear, very well made.

Thanks!

I'm not looking for a tubed amplifier, though, only tubes in the preamp stage.

Sure, If I can find one. My room is smallish (12' x12' or so). I don't know if I need that much power, but I'd look at a used BAT VK-300SE. Know of one?
