cmalak.....definitely a very favorable review from Ultraaudio.com (much like Home Theater's review)....also noticed that Ayre actually put up Michael Fremer's (Stereophile) rather lukewarm review of the DX-5 on their website....in any event, as soon as I finalize my amp choice, I'll definitely be ordering the Ayre DX-5.....Philip

Philip...good luck with sorting out your amp selection between the DD Momentums and the Krell Evo 600e monos? Also, are you thinking of any other digital source apart from the DX-5? Just curious. Thx

cmalak,

Thanks, and I sure do hope I'll be able to sort out the amp selection real soon, once that's done, then I'm off to buy the Ayre DX-5.

The Ayre DX-5 appeals to me on many levels in that it allows me to simplify not only my audio needs, but also my video needs in a one-box solution without compromising performance. I will also be coupling the DX-5 to a DVDO iScan Duo video processor (figured that a Lumagen vp would probably be overkill for me) to squeeze out the last drops of video performance (I hope), but in reality, since both the DX-5 and iScan Duo have Anchor Bay's ABT2010 second-generation video processing chip, I'm expecting the Color Management System on the iScan Duo to be the main differentiator here.

As for other digital sources that I have considered, well at one point I was looking at the dCS Puccini SACD/CD player & U-Clock, Boulder 1021, Berkeley Audio Design's Alpha DAC & Alpha USB. But end of the day, the DX-5 remained at the top of my shortlist due to the fact that I love the Ayre house sound (I'm using an Ayre KX-R preamp & Ayre QB-9 USB DAC for now), and it also is simply an elegant/comprehensive solution for all my digital source needs (from silver disc to computer audio), plus it's a helluva lot cheaper to go down this route!

Philip
