For me, this is still the one to beat, and the 1975 sound holds up very well.

Tchaikovsky - 6th Symphony

On vinyl, a young friend's favorite, frankly new to me.

I used to try to help Julian sustain this thread when he was carrying it 90% on his shoulders, but when the real classical music aficionados arrived I largely ceased my puny efforts at posting. I do read it everyday because there is so much valuable information here.

wonderful to have you here again

This morning: Swoon CD 1. These are legend here.

"The Swoon collection CDs from the popular segment on ABC Classic FM Breakfast program made history. The trilogy of now classic albums are still the highest selling classical compilations ever released in Australia and are responsible for introducing intensely beautiful music to thousands of people. Works by long forgotten composers, new Australian music, and works from other cultures stood alongside masterpieces by the likes of Bach, Mozart and Handel."

Hmm...after finishing Aimard's WTC, I listened to a bit of Richter's (SACD remastered version), and I think I was a bit generous in praising Aimard! Compared to Richter, Aimard is rather cold and uses no pedal. Still, his playing is notable for its remarkable clarity.

I rather like didgeridoo in Classic Music - listen now to Songs of Sea & Sky, an album of works by Peter Sculthorpe revised for didgeridoo and orchestra. William Barton is on the didg, with the Queensland Orchestra. Enchanting, ethereal music.

Peter just passed away a few months ago, - along with Ross Edwards, he is my favourite contemporary Australian composer.

Here is a picture of William Barton & his new album. I always try and hear him when he is playing in Sydney. The didg makes a very big sound when he blows it.

here is the itunes link in the USA if anyone wants to hear him: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bi...sk/id891251360

Thanks Andy. I listened to the samples and found it very interesting. I just found a copy of Songs of Sea & Sky on eBay and will give it a try.

The sun is late this morning. At our latitude we lose about 20 minutes of daylight per week this I time of year. Fall is coming.
Listening to (or was):
Beethoven: Complete Chamber Music for Flute
Jean-Pierre Rampal, flute
Robert Veyron-Lacrois, piano VoxBox

I have this as part of the Brilliant Classics Complete Works of Beethoven. Unfortunately it only lasted about 20 minutes on my system this morning: it's so fast-paced and the playing is so clipped and staccato that I found it rather tiresome. Not my cup of tea.
