This morning a repeat listen:
Purcell - Ten Sonatas In Four Parts The King's Concort Vivat 2014 Excellent performance the King's Consort. I don't recall hearing of this label before and the recording is a bit of a mixed bag. The tone is excellent but it was recorded in Menuhin Hall in Surrey and not much of the hall ambience comes through, and soundstage is a bit constricted. Still a very nice album.

Not really Classical per say, but an interesting listen:
Morton Gould and his orchestra Baton & Bows Music by Kreisler and Kern Microphoned for stereo, but recorded in mono! Smooth and engaging is in play here. Regards, Jim

Listening to . . . Richard Wagner - Preludes and Overtures
Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra Amsterdam - Yakov Kriezberg, Conductor A Pentatone SACD Wow, this sounds good. . Very dynamic, So much energy that it will bowl you over. Great Sound. Excellent performance. A good "Show-Off" Recording. Doesn't get great reviews, but the sound is extremely good. Sent from my iPhone using A.Aficionado

Hector Berlioz - Les Nuits D'Été Leontyne Price - Soprano Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Fritz Reiner, Conductor An RCA Dynagroove Stereo LP, Recorded in 1964, which probably broke poor Fritz's heart since Living Stereo was now a thing of the past. An excellent recording never-the-less with Leontyne Price in full command of her glorious voice singing music that just soars. Magnificent! .

Has anyone here heard (or heard anything about) Fritz Reiner-The Complete RCA Recordings
A 63 disc set, compiled in 2013. Amazon says "Every recording in this new 63-CD set comes from the best re-mastered source. A third have been newly re-mastered from the original tapes." Loving the Living Stereo catalogue as I do, and especially the Reiner/Chicago recordings, I'm tempted . . . and $189.95 seems reasonable ($3.02 a disc); but I'd love to know more before I buy . . . . Comments anyone?

Sibelius: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4
This morning...
Sibelius: Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 39 Symphony No. 4 in A minor, Op. 63 Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä  I've always liked the 1st symphony since I was introduced to it by Bernstein/VPO in the 1990s. This newcomer is a worthy update in glowing SACD BIS sound and interpretation recorded before the cataclysmic Minnesota Orchestra labor lock out. I hope Vänskä can rebuild the orchestra to its recent level of artistry. Gramophone Magazine Editor's Choice - August 2013

Listening to . . . .First Chair Soloists - The Philadelphia Orchestra - Eugene Ormandy
Telemann: 4 Concertos for Diverse Solo Instruments This LP is excellent . . . The first chair players at the Philadelphia are (must be) among the best in the world and they play great music here. Telemann Concertos are gorgeous and the presentation here is wonderful.
