Default Do you Think the McIntosh Brand Is Cheapened By Getting Into Car Stereo?

Like most of us here, I have a heavy investment in McIntosh equipment. Consequently, I am saddened and concerned regarding McIntosh’s foray into High end car audio. I truly feel it will cheapen and weaken the brand as a whole because of this. Was this truly necessary on their part and didn’t they try it before when Clarion owned them? To be honest, I do not like the direction the company is going and I feel by doing so my equipment will depreciate at a much higher rate. Once McIntosh gets known for its car audio, people will tend to stay away from their home audio equipment.

What do you think?

I doubt it will have a significant impact either positive or negative.

No worse than their Lifestyle products, IMO.

I don't like it but reality may have them searching for additional income to remain viable. I think it's hard to make a living within their core mission.

I have no issue with McIntosh diversifying. It is a business, continuously adapt or perish is the name of the game. It would seem they are doing well...good for them.

However, the way they initially implemented their new “Lifestyle“ strategy was an exercise in “how to alienate your loyal customer base”. I was an enthusiastic McIntosh Customer...but after their cringeworthy marketing efforts, I just couldn’t take them seriously anymore.

I do wish them all the best though, and maybe someday I will return to the flock.

McIntosh has offered car stereos in the past. In fact the best example was the Ford GT circa 2005/6. I bet many wish they had a McIntosh car stereo and that Ford GT, it is worth quite a bit more money now...

The different branches of McIntosh are a plus IMHO. The more diverse they are, the more chances of long term survival as a company.

It won't hurt the brand one bit. It's an experiment worth taking.

It's not really an experiment. McIntosh made quite a few car audio products in the past. http://roger-russell.com/caraud.htm

McIntosh sold out when they started making lifestyle crap in China.
The car audio stuff does not bother me, I welcome it. The original car audio gear is still sought after and commands a premium.
