This is another favorite of mine - "A Sunday Afternoon" by Australian artist Tom Roberts, 1886. Oil on canvas.

Johannes Vermeer - Girl with a Pearl Earing



I love his use of light and how the dark background contrasts against the vivid colors used on the girl and her clothing.
An incredible painter who has but a few dozen paintings to his name.

Thanks for posting that Doug. I agree the artist used colors wonderfully to provoke thought, as though the focus was to convey the subject's emotions.

This is one of Australia's most loved art pieces - "Ned Kelly" by Australian artist Sidney Nolan, 1946. Enamel on composition board. I love the use of colors & bold Kelly figure with his armor.

Saw this one at the Dali Museum of St Pete, FL.
As you may know, you have to look at it standing at about 20 meters to see a giant face of Lincoln appearing.
