I was on an SACD learning kick. Most SACD's seem to be a bit more expensive than most vinyl. SACD's to me trump CD's a high percentage of the time. They have something "extra" that most CD's do not.

Good recordings are good recordings, and if done well I think the medium matter's but can be compensated for.

All those converters and bits of computer's in CD/SACD players started to remind me of synthesizers and it hit me. CD players are more or less synthesizers, taking bits and creating waveforms, or taking high quality samples of instruments to match the original.

I like the fact that the signal was put down into the groove from something physical, and if you take care it can be close to the original. Even as a kid I knew about master tapes but never heard them. I saw those as the holy grail.

I think vinyl gives more to start with, digital has to work harder at what vinyl does easier. I think that's why the price difference in really good SACD players exists.

I think a cheaper vinyl setup can achieve more than a equally priced CD/SACD setup.

The more I start collecting vinyl, it's fun, when I buy a CD/SACD it doesn't have the same "spark" as buying a vinyl record. I didn't grow up with vinyl, I mostly made recordings off the radio, so I don't have any fond memories of childhood with my lp's. This is a new gig for me.

I could only pick one, so I picked what I thought was more fun. It also has an arcane knowledge feel to it too. Indiana Jones and the Last LP.

Mark

That's my rant and I am stinking to it.

Vinyl listening for me brings a whole new dimension to my time spent with my system.

No it's not as convenient as CD's, and yes, there are records that have a few audible pops in the grooves between tracks and even on the lower sound passages, but it has a sound that brings me back to play it over and over again.

Vinyl listening is a process, that some people love, some hate, and some dabble in.

It's fun, and for people like me who can remember playing 45's, and LP's ( if you could afford them) on some cheesy record player as a kid, it brings back memories.

It would seem that some prefer computer music. :confused-37:
Playing records may be a inconvenience, but to me it adds extra enjoyment of music plus a lot of music is simply no longer available in a any other format or it may be out of production altogether. Inconvenience, is not a very good reason for not spinning vinyl in my opinion.
Many here are missing out on some great music and experiences that are associated with vinyl.

"In my opinion", Well said 1KW.
