Nothing through the main output?
It's odd, I was switching between my ARC Ref 40 and my Ref 10, trying to compare the two line stages. Everything was fine, and I had switched out from the Ref 10 to the Ref 40... let it sit overnight and then I listened to the Ref 40 then switched out the input to input 1 of the 10 and plugged in the main outputs from the 10 going into the Boulder. But this time, everything would power up as usual. The mute button was disengaged.... and I had no sound. I tested each output from my sources into the 40... and all worked. I even tested the Ref 10 phono going into the Ref 10 LS and still no output, and this had been working as recently as the previous listen session. I think it is the mainoutput that's the problem, but I could not find a trip switch or a fuse or anything to remedy the situation. Now I have to call ARC tomorrow and see what can be done. If I'm sure it's a small and simple fix.... the whole display works, it switches through all inputs, there no issue there. Has anyone experienced this? Am I just missing something? |

Hope it is a simple fix. I’m having an issue with my 6SE and there is a 4 month wait for service per ARC.

Hi Joey,
I sent the following to you in an e-mail. You may have tried these items or may want to try them again. Sometimes when switching cables from one linestage to another, the cables can get mixed up. You know the following already, but I'll say it anyway: -- The Ref 10 has 7 input connectors which can be balanced or single-ended. Check that it is using the correct input for the device you want to use. Check that the output to your amplifier are the ones selected on the Ref 10. -- Try a different input. -- Try a different input device such as the Ref 10 Phono or a different digital source. -- Make sure it is not on Mute. -- Turn it off and unplug the power cord from the wall for a minute or two. Turn your amp off. After waiting, turn your amp on, then plug in the linestage and turn it on. -- Watch the start-up screen closely as it boots up. Look for any messages that might flash by. -- Turn it off and check that all tubes are seated properly. Check the power cords from the power supply to the control unit are seated properly. Check the fuse on the back of the power supply. |

My understanding from joey is he replaced the fuses in his Ref 10 and it is working.

Curious about his comparison between the Ref 40 and Ref 10

It would be interesting to learn joey's take on both.
You can read a Ref Anniversary v Ref 10 comparison in a Ref 10 review on TAB. Scroll down to the end, it starts before the conclusion. I suspect it was the success of the one-year limited edition Ref Anniversary that led ARC to do the Ref 10. The Ref 10 is a great linestage and the Ref 10 Phono is even better. |
