Nice. The Kimbers were from Ray out of Salt Lake, were reportedly subs for Jensens at some point by Cary. Definitely worth trying caps as-is and rolling different 6SN7s. As I recall, the Kimber caps were a little more transparent than Jensen oilers. The George Cardas caps out of Bandon OR were made for a number of years and discontinued by Cardas Co. I still have a new full set of those brand new I pulled from my former SLI-80 amp. Saving those for a project or part with 'em later if I don't.

From an old post, fwiw, clip/quote: "Cary Audio (also Audio Electronic Supply) used Kimber Kaps in their tube amps. When they offer an upgrade they substitute the Kimber for Jensen copper foil in oil capacitors. I have the AES SuperAmp 2 with Kimber Kaps and I'm quite amazed at this amps clarity and quickness", unquote.

Good Luck, should be nice.

So far so good. Rolled in a quad of the Sophia Electric 6SN7s and while OK, they are a bit on the lush/warm side for me. Rolled the out and replaced with coin-base Sylvania and much better. Have a couple of sets of GE & Tung-Sol and Syl standard base to try, as well.

Similar to your Rocket88 amp, when I ran EL34s in my Cary V12R - I ran mid '60s Sylvania Black Plate 6SN7 in the SLP98. That combo worked well with the Mundorf caps in that amp as well. However, if you ran something like KT88s in the Rocket88, perhaps you might favor the Sophia 6SN7s in the 98 then. Tip one side and balance out on the other. Its great you have all those 6SN7s to try in the 98. My SLP98/Amps and sources are more sensitive to interconnect changes too once I started down the path with an SLP98 paired with more transparent Mundorf SESG caps in the amps.

Removed the 2nd pair of coke-bottle 6SN7s and rolled in a set of the re-issue Tung-Sol. Have the coin-base Syl in 2 & 3 and the Tung-Sol in 1 & 4 and has tightened up the sound. Will be listing the coke-bottle 6SN7s. They are great for headphones in Woo amps, but not so much thru speakers. Obviously, YMMV.

Also, while the load is badly mis-matched (47K when should be 100ohm), there is plenty of gain with my Kontrapunk-b cartridge thru the phono-stage. Have a pair of JAN Phillips 12AU7s and the EH in the 12AX7 position. Will roll in the SUT before long to see how that helps. The K-b sounds a bit 'lifeless' with the 47K load. Volume at about 10 o'clock, so not that bad. Will also rolling in a set of the Sovtek 12AX7LPS to try at some point.

Wonder if replacing the stock 0.22uf coupling caps with 0.33uf coupling caps would roll off the highs? Have you ever tried doing so?

I tend to stick to stock values, and understanding moving from .22 to .33 could effectively provide slightly more bass, however other problems can occur.

Prior research noted if the coupling stage is part of the feedback loop there can be stability issues. Other references indicating a need to check circuit design, sometimes shifting around can cause low frequency stability issues. Would recommend to check with the circuit designer before doing so.

Yes. I would ask Dennis Had if I thought he would reply. Stock values will be fine.
Someday I'll likely roll in a set of the Mundorf MCap Supreme SG in place of the KimberKaps. I might go with big Clarity caps, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wait the inordinate time it takes the Clarity caps to break-in. That's a lot of hours on output tubes for not much gain, if any, over the Mundorfs, which take about 1/5 the time, or less.

Edit 1:
After reading a number of reviews on caps have ordered a quad of Audyn 0.22uf True Copper Max caps to roll into my Cary amp to replace the KimberKaps. More later. Same 2% tolerance as the Mundorf for half the cost and, hopefully, similar to Mundorf (and not Clarity) in break-in time.

Edit 2:
Immediate improvement in clarity & detail with the new caps. More authority in bass. Looking forward to even better. For whatever reason, the Cary amp & Canton speakers are a love-fest (to my ears).

The Jensen caps started leaking again. Now breaking in the Mundorfs.

Overall, a very impressive sound
