Default BDP1 wont recognize passport with apple lossless files

Hi James. I just received my new B135 SST2. It sounds great. Best analog sound I have heard and I have an SP3.
I just picked up a BDA1 and a BDP1 from a friend that has bills to pay and he wanted to sell. I set it up today and I am trying to play through my Passport portable hard drive connected to the rear (and also tried front) of the BDP1. The files are apple lossless and it recognizes the drive but cant get anything out. So...I tried the supplied (unused) Bryston usb drive inserted in the front panel and that does play.... what is the latest firmware update? S1.19 2011-10-01 appears to be loaded. thanks tony

Hi Tony

There is a new version of software coming in about 2 weeks but I do not think that is the issue.. How large is your drive and is it self powered?

We recommend Flac or AIFF or Wave over Apple Lossless as large drives with AL can sometimes cause have loading issues.

James

That must be it James. It is powered from the USB port so I am assuming that means self powered in this case. It is a large drive...1TB with about 1200 files/songs loaded. Do you have a suggestion on the best way to convert to AIFF? As always, thanks for your help James. tony

That's it for sure - USB is limited to 500ma. Pick up a new Western Digital 1TB Passport drive. They consume very little power and work well

On you MAC it allows you to convert to AIFF but remember it needs 1/3 rd more space on the drive.

Thank you James for the updates, have been using them on both units and I love the new interface and features(random, repeat, larger album
art) as well. No more glitches or hangups on some files here and there. Everything is perfect. I love you all .... in a platonic way of course!!!

I can't stress enough how much my BDP-1's mean to me.

My entire music collection combined with incredible sound quality at the touch of a button. The BDP-1 defines audio perfection.

Take care James and everyone at Bryston.

So will my wife be able to figure out how to use a BDP-1? She's the one that wants to get rid of the piles of CDs we have lying around.

Assuming I do all the setup, etc. properly, will she be able to figure out the interface and software easily enough?

And that, folks, should give me my initial 10 posts...

Subject: Happy Holidays and Thanks!!

James, just a quick e-mail to wish you and all the staff at Bryston a very happy holiday season!!

Also to thank you for making such a great addition to my music system - the BDP-1. I have not bought anything that has single-handedly transformed the way I access and listen to my music library any better than the BDP-1.

And sonically, it's a slam dunk, as it takes red book to a new level.

Once you helped me to get it configured along with mPad, I have not had a single "problem" with it. In fact, I never did have any problems with it - any temporary glitches were just due to my newness with the BDP-1. I am thoroughly pleased, and I thank you (and Chris) every time I fire it up to enjoy music.

From a very satisfied customer who made an absolutely right purchasing decision a year ago,

Alan Compaan
