Default Strange but very interesting sci-fi with Scarlett Johansson

Under The Skin

This movie is strange enough that I can imagine A LOT of people not liking it, so I will not technically "recommend" it. But both my wife and I enjoyed it a lot.

I read reviews where people said that a lot of audience members walked off after 15 minutes. In our theater, everyone was firmly planted in the chair and seemed totally engrossed by it.

There's just enough "explanation" to keep one from being totally lost, but there's also a lot left to the imagination.

I won't rehash the plot of the review, here's the IMDB link, but I'd love to hear from other AA members who have seen it or plan to see it.

Alberto

PS The soundtrack is also very weird but, again, it fit perfectly and I enjoyed it.

The wife and I didn't like particularly like it but we did stick it out through the end.

I mean, I get the imagery. I get the twist.

But it was mind numbingly boring and repetitive during the first 2/3rds.

The premise of the book was a lot better I thought - there was more dialogue and more introspective - at least you could hear what Johansson's character was thinking.

Scariest and Creepiest alien abduction ever tho

Ok - tried to watch this. Utter rubbish, even with Scarlett.

Shame. No "Lost in Translation".

I watched it and was quite impressed. Yes it was kinda slow, but at-least to me it was thought provoking.
Cheers,
Sid

Clearly a polarizing movie. I am looking forward to watching it again, but I can see why many people would have the same reaction you did.

... that's why I started my post with "I can imagine A LOT of people not liking it, so I will not technically "recommend" it."

If you asked me why I liked it (other than Scarlett) I could not really tell you. But in an age of over-the-top action movies where there is more shooting than dialogue, I found it a nice change of pace.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I don't watch the "shoot 'em up" movies either.

The previews look good. As soon as it arrives via Netflix I'll report back.

Hi Andy,

About telling us some of your favorites non-shoot-them-ups? I am always looking for some recommendations for nice "cerebral" movies without 20 minutes shooting sequences-especially those where the good guys kill with every shot and the bad guys can't seem to hit the side of a barn 3 feet away .

The recent "Lone Survivor" was a good/bad example of such unrealistic shooting/fighting scenes in a movie that, otherwise, could have been quite interesting given the moral and tactical dilemmas.
