Default Tidal Subscription Changes effective 4/10/24

Per Tidal Support page:

Upcoming Changes to TIDAL Subscriptions

What changes are coming to TIDAL subscriptions on April 10, 2024?

We're updating our pricing for TIDAL globally. Starting April 10, 2024, subscribers will be able to access all our current streaming features, including all premium audio formats, on a single subscription tier called TIDAL. An add-on will be available at an additional monthly cost to access TIDAL's catalog on DJ hardware and software.

How will the combination of HiFi and HiFi Plus tiers into a single TIDAL plan affect my current subscription?

Subscribers of the HiFi Plus and HiFi tiers will be transitioned to the new TIDAL tier, Individual plan, ensuring continued access to over 110 million tracks in lossless quality, including HiRes FLAC and Dolby Atmos, at a consolidated price of $10.99 USD/month on an Individual plan.

HiFi Plus subscribers on an Individual plan who actively use TIDAL’s DJ integrations will automatically get access to the $9 USD/month DJ add-on and will continue paying the same total price.

Thanks for the info, but I went back to Qobuz.

I began with Qobuz, but after a while they seemed not to be streaming what they promised, so I switched to Tidal which was more economical with my military discount. But after a while Tidal began to limit their stream. The SQ changed. So, I switched back to Qobuz. But who knows Qobuz may begin to limit their playback SQ in a few months ….

It was a mix bag for me with Tidal & Qobuz depending on certain tracks. I leaned toward Tidal because their playlists/recommendations seem to work better for my listening habits.

With the reduced monthly pricing, Tidal now competes head on with Apple/Amazon/Qobuz...$20 HiFi Plus monthly, IMO, was non-competitive considering other streaming options.

That's interesting. Can you explain in what way you think Qobuz limits its playback SQ?

This was sometime back. I’m now back to using Qobuz.

This said, back sometime ago when I first began Qobuz everything was fine. However, about 6 months into my experience the resolution of some songs wasn’t what Qobuz promised. They seemed to downgrade some of the files from Hi Rez.

If I experience it again, I’ll go back to Tidal or try something else. My Taiko also uses Idagio - classical music. (Taiko is still working on this feature, but there is a free version of Idagio that has tons of music on it).

PS: I have Qobuz merely for convenience for some albums I don’t own. However, I have tons of ripped CDs that sound better than either Tidal or Qobuz. When I stream normally the ripped CDs are first up.

Same here! I've read so many audiophiles say that they have little or no use for their stored files once they have Qobuz or Tidal. I like Qobuz, but for me it's mostly a novelty.

In my experience, Qobuz delivers the resolution it promises. Unfortunately, many of the files on the streaming services are remastered and are dynamically compressed compared to the original recordings. That's why Qobuz really isn't a primary source for me. But it's fun to have.

That’s an excellent way of stating the facts. Thanks. I may steal it one day.

I solved this problem with having both Tidal and Qobuz. My Control 4nhome system doesn’t do Qobuz, only Tidal. And if one doesn’t have it, the other does. It is more expensive, but I rarely buy vinyl( it has to be special) and nothing digital. In the end. I get most of everything I want and spend less.
