It's the end game for me.

Yeh, I think that often,… then there is that itch.

Yeah, the itch. It's mainly psychological. The biggest improvement I can make is room treatment.

This may be a totally bad idea, but thought I'd solicit opinions. Balancing volume levels across multiple streamed recordings in a playlist is a pita. Could a passive preamp with remote volume/attenuation be placed in the chain without significant impact on the sound quality?
The chain is Denefrips Pontus DAC to LP-2030 Preamp to Inspire KT88 SEP.
If it's not a totally bad idea, where would it go in the chain - between the DAC and LP-2030, or between the LP-2030 and the amp?

From Dennis, "Oh, there is a fellow inquiring the impedance of the LP-2030 … The input impedance of the LP-2030 is 57K and the output impedance is 3.3K. The LP-2030 will drive into as low as 10K loads at full frequency response."

I know this is borderline blasphemy, but…

I have a lead on a used 2030 preamp that I would like to jump on. However, my speakers are relatively inefficient, so I’ll most likely need to use a SS amp that has a little grunt. That being said, what kind of specs do I need to be looking for as far as what might work well with the pre? From what I read, it’s pretty flexible and should drive most anything.

Thanks in advance.

Are there WE tubes that will work in the 2030 pre and what would the model numbers be?
Thanks.

Other than the voltage regulators and the rectifier, the LP-2030 uses 01A, 12A, and 71A and their variants. There were some Western Electric RCA 01As made and there could be others.

Thanks for the reply. As a 6V6’er owner I am wondering if someone who knows their tube combinations would be willing to throw together a simple chart showing which rectifier and driver tubes can or should be used with a certain power tube pair. Currently running VT170’s with a 5AR4 and a 6SL7GT all TUNGSOL. Ready to try tube rolling but not sure what to pair up. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide.
