I think they follow the old Goldmund model - to 'drain' component energy away from the component. They appear to have some characteristics of a cone coupler but the literature suggests that it is not for the purpose of coupling them like a hard cone; instead, that it is intended to help dissipate vibration. The Goldmund cones are a postively ancient way of doing that, too, using some kind of elastomer, not sure, but it's soft, in the middle of a hard cone. I still have several sets from the dark days of fooling around with footers, along with the usual assortment of tiptoes, pucks, sorbothane dampers, hard rubber receptacles for cones, cones made of different materials bonded or threaded together, magic bricks, etc. Is there a graveyard for old tweaks?
FWIW, i am now experimenting with internal vibration reduction on the tube power supply to my new phono stage. I have used vibrapod cones (actually not bad, especially given how cheap they are, with the vibrapod 'pod'), herbie's tenderfeet (too soft sounding), goldmund cones (meh, but c'mon, they are what- 20 years old?), aurios classic 1.2 (phenomenal tightening of bass with accompanying clarity of midrange and a harshness that makes you run from the room); hrs couplers with spacers (good, but didn't come close to what the aurios did right). Next up, Stillpoints Ultra SS and a proprietary decoupler that is sorta like a rollerblock. Each one of these things does something. Whether it's good or bad really depends on the system and the objective. Bob- i thought you had these cones? Last edited by Whart; 08-07-2012 at 10:24 PM. |

Yes, I do. Had 6 "AC's" & will keep the 6 "TC'"s. I was impressed with the Nordost audition (accompanied by Jim ((Stillone)) and I) & bought several upon returning home (from RMAF 2010).

Was the same place I wanted to audition the C2.1. I had told them i was going to be there on weekend, but just happen I was in the area and wanted to stop by. They would not let me audition without being properly set up, so I guess I'll be heading back hopefully this weekend.. |

Lars from Nordost, who is well known in the audio world & is a master in the business in setting up demonstrations which are quite convincing -- iit was at his RMAF 2010 demo when I was introduced to the Sort Kones. Best Bob
