This Altaira has peaked my interest. It may be time to talk again Ivan.

Congrats 2 Old 2 Matter! I have a pair of Signal hubs in house at the moment on demo, simply incredible what they accomplished in my system. You will be be very happy. Image1672367985.072395.jpg

I am curious why you went direct to the SGS option and bypass the CGS per Shunyata recommendations?

If you're going to implement a "segmented" system (more than 1 hub), the guidance from the Shunyata recommendations is, for optimal performance, to use the SG hubs.

From Altaira Hub Selection Guide, pp. 4:

I’m very curious about the difference between segmentation with 2 Signal Hubs (as described and recommended) vs adding a Signal Hub after a Chassis Hub is already in place as per the “note” at the bottom of the page.

I’m currently using a Chassis Hub, and like everyone else, I’m fascinated by the effects. So much so that I’m sure I’ll be getting an additional Signal Hub in the future despite having a simple system with fewer than 6 components. Any information about the difference in performance might assist others in making their decision on which way to go. And I can also attest that adding an Omega cable between the Altaira and your conditioner unlocks “another level”. Truly remarkable.

Thanks Stephan, I had read that. I confused it with the input from Richard at Shunyata on getting a CGS first then a SGS. It was a different context.

If folks get a CG hub first to use with a "basic" core system, they can always add an SG hub later to develop a "segmented" system. And, they'll get improved performance compared to using just a single CG Altaira. But, they'll get even more performance when both hubs are SG hubs when implementing a "fully segmented" system.

And, that's what I'm doing, specifically. I have one dedicated SG Altaira hub connected to the Lumin P1's external ground terminal and it's S/PDIF interface, and another SG hub for the CJ LP70S power amp and phono stage's ground terminal as the "analog" stack. I actually installed a banana plug-style ground terminal on the back of the LP70S to connect it to Altaira. Every "place" (component, "piece of gear", switch, etc.) that's powered where you can lower ground-plane noise pays dividends.

Back when my EtherREGEN and the Lampizator DAC was in the main rack, ER's ground terminal and the Lampi's S/PDIF interface was connected to the "digital stack" SG hub. I noted that Lukasz installed a dedicated chassis ground terminal on the new Horizon DAC.

The other place one would benefit from installing an SG Altaira hub would be if you have a remote server room or closet, with a music server or Roon Core, NAS, router, switch, master clock, or FMCs, for example.

I have a question if you start out with two SG Altaira hubs, how would you segment a preamp with a built in Dac (Gryphon preamp)?
I currently have a basic system amp, preamp/dac, LuminT2, Transport.
Also my Fyne F-10 have dedicated grounding post, I wonder if anyone has tried the Altaira on those speakers.

I don't which Gryphon you have as you didn't specify, but if it has a dedicated ground terminal on the back, as the Essence does, you can connect that to a segmented system. One way would be to connect your amp and the ground terminal on the back of the Gryphon preamp (the "analog stack") to one Altaira SG hub, and then your Lumin T2 and transport to a 2nd Altaira SG hub (the "digital stack"). If your Gryphon has an unused S/PDIF port, USB port, etc, you could also connect a ground cable with the appropriate tail to that digital stack Altaira. You can also connect unused analog ports, e.g. an unused pair of RCA or XLR inputs or outputs to the "analog stack" Altaira, if you wish. The nice thing is, the T2 has a dedicated ground terminal on it, which makes for the best type of connection to an Altaira hub. Once again, Lumin has got it goin' on, in my view and experience.
