Perhaps I've 'executed' my granite slabs correctly. Here is a pic of a vibration readout from my phone while laying atop an empty 22"x22" granite shelf I use while being rapped with my brass hammer. As is clearly displayed, after the initial knock and rebound there is essentially no ringing between the hammer strikes other then that last one, where I struck quite hard. Just a bit of low level ring on that one. The strikes were about in the center of the piece and spaced about 2 sec between.
I also rapped the side-edge of the granite slab, but the initial spike was about 1/3 the height of these and, again, essentially no ringing. Think you'll be good with granite. Almost forgot to mention, the Allman Brothers' "Live at the Fillmore" was rocking & rolling on the TT on the shelf about 4" to the right of the one I was striking and there was zero noise feed back thru the system that I could hear.

We use Adona Racks. The use a Granite top as a layer in their manufacturing process. They are very well made. We use the Reference Rack for our TT. Each shelf hold 300+ lbs. They are amazing.

Interesting............ thought I answered this last evening. Must have forgotten to post.
I use a Samsung Android phone and this is one of the apps that popped up when I put in the app you suggested, which did not show up at all. It is from the Play Store. You will recognize it by the icon, which is the one in lower left of the screen-shot I posted. Not the best due to its lack of saving data, but adequate for our needs.

When I used to teach Design for Six Sigma a coupla years ago, an important concept was..."It's all about the...transfer function." The more simply a design can mediate the transfer function, the better. Rega's overall "less is more" design philosophy is very much in concordance with the concept of Ideality. BTW, Linn is very familiar with this design philosophy as well, with their classic "Simply better" tagline. Those guys know their engineering. Just some philosophical musings for a Friday. *– TRIZ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIZ ✝︎– Ideality: shorturl.at/nCOV9

Do agree simpler is generally better.
Granite/marble cutouts are a cost to the companies that do the granite installs. They can't really use them for anything and have to pay to have them hauled away and trashed. Unless your local dealers have found a use for them, they are usually pretty happy to let them go for a few$$. That's how I obtained mine.

To wit, a product shot just for fun* of my G-Shock GGB-100-1A3 on a small trapezoidal block of granite (the base for my Six Sigma Black Belt certification trophy, to be exact). ![]() *-I do shots like this for fun to practice my lighting and staging technique

![]() After seeing these and the first links you posted, I'm kind of tempted to do the plinth just to find out what I can hear, and to be able to articulate what the differences, are. Got a music box mechanism on its way, and playing with it like you guys have done is a great way to understand better what I'm hearing when something doesn't seem right.
