I'm not a fan of chemicals for stylus/LP cleaning. Like a lot of other products out there, some will swear by them others will consider them causing more harm than good.
Keeping your stylus clean, along with proper storage care of your LP's will do more good than various other cleaning devices/treatments,in my opinion. Careful attention should be given to stylus cleaners that involve chemicals: on occasion, the stylus tips have been known to dismount as a result of the chemical used to clean the stylus. Linn recommends the use of "Green Paper" as stylus cleaner- no chemicals. The same for LP's- carbon fiber brush for debris/dust and let the stylus do the cleaning in the grooves. |

Serge.......All of my albums are treated with LAST Record Preservative. It is not a lubricant, and leaves zero residue in the grooves. The compound molecularly joins to the vinyl to a depth of about ten molecular layers, and becomes part of the groove wall. One of its design purposes is to aid in heat and stylus shockwave transfer to the air instead of the vinyl.
When last was first introduced I was involved with an experiment where two automatic turntables with identical, brand new cartridges were used to play the same side of two new identical albums, one Last treated, one untreated. The turntables were set to repeat, and played the same 18 minutes of that side of the album over and over for 24 hours, or approximately 80 continuous plays. The following day using an oscilloscope, the two albums were tested for noise floor differences compared to a third untreated brand new album, opened and played only once for a reference point on the scope. The untreated album, after 80 plays, had a significantly higher noise floor than the referenced untreated brand new album. The Last treated album, after 80 continuous plays had a lower noise floor than the referenced untreated brand new album. I witnessed this test myself, and was the person who set the two turntables up for the test. I purchased the Last product that day, and began treating every album I own. To this day, every album I own is Last treated, with the little round, white Last sticker put on the album label to remind me that the album has been Last treated. Michael Fremer, Spring 1994, The Absolute Sound Magazine: "While I am on the subject, let me enthusiastically recommend the LAST products. Now that records are rarities, preservation is more important than ever. The LAST products work, and they improve the sound too. This was all covered years ago in TAS. Tam Henderson reviewed LAST enthusiastically in Issue 20 and Dave Wilson verified the improvements from Stylast by measurements in Issue 32. It's still true, and the LAST people are still here. These are indispensible products for the vinyl listener." I have Last treated albums that are 28 years old that still play perfectly, sound brand new, and are very quiet. I highly recommend the Last Record Preservative product. http://www.lastfactory.com/Products/...ve.html#Anchor

Serge
Used it many many years ago along with permastat. Stay away from permastat as it leaves a residue. Can't recall what the gru glide did but never bought it again. I would be hesitant on using anything other than a RCM. That will get rid of any static, dirt etc. |

Easy to use - Yes Improves Fidelity - not to my ears removes static - yes Cleans records - yes Improves tracking - not sure about that claim Records and stylii last longer - Records and Stylii last longer if you care for them and keep them clean - not sure their stuff is better at it then other brands One Application - yes Treats 150 records - I lost count before I ran out Overall I think it does a good job of cleaning the records, and it does seem to remove some of the static on some of the used records I have purchased.
