Powering down a MS300/750

Since we all know that the MS running all of the time - including the fan and hard drive ... is there a way to easily and safely power it down for periods of time when not in use - like for a few days?

any thoughts on this topic?

....and if that is not easy to do because of location, simply order a remote controlled switch and set it up to work off your learning remote, labeling it "MS Master Power" or something like that. Then with a simple click the unit is "unplugged" from the mains. You will experience a 1-2 minute boot up when you restore power before the pilot light stops flashing and the unit is ready to accept a start command. The jury seems to be out, however, whether these units or even PC's benefit from frequent rebooting or are better to be left on. For just 2-3 days, some would say leave it on, especially if this means several times a month.

uh, not to disagree with the Master's on this topic - but in general, my recollection (especially the older ones) is that computers tend not to like being abruptly unplugged vs going thru a formal 'shut-down' sequence.... and I can not image that it is good for the hardware/software interactions......

It's the operating systems on PCs that don't like abrupt shutdown, i.e. Windows. Do you know of a shutdown sequence on the MS300/750 that we don't know about?

Try this: With the MS750 in Standby (red LED on), try pressing and holding the Standby/On button for at least 4 seconds, until the red LED begins flashing, then release the button.

i don't know of a good way to turn it off - and considering all of the problems that I and others have had with our MS systems - I was hoping for thoughts on how to avoid what appears to be a 'bad' way

IMO, you should never turn it off. If PS issues are indeed inherent in this product, then powering it up with possible inrush current surges cannot be conducive to long life. Has anyone's MS ever failed while ON? They fail when repowering with a dreaded blinking light.

That will reboot the system
