Agree with you, Chessman and TLi, on your observations. Each of my components (including speakers and sub) are in 'isolation sandwiches' with a combination of HRS, Stillpoints, Auralex underneath and HRS, Artesania, Stillpoints and upwards of 154lbs of solid brass weight for mass damping on top. Look forward to reading more...

FWIW, I compared the Ultra 5s and the other Stillpoints devices under my power components (amp, 2 PSUs and Power Conditioner). I ended up going with all Ultra 5s...4 under each, along with HRS Nimbus/Couplers on top of the Ultra 5 (and THEN the component on top).

Imo, using Stillpoints under power conditioners receives a priority (after speakers), because, as allvinyl (John) mentions: "These components tend to generate more vibration due to transformers and other internal components." That's a similar rational for locating Stillpoints under transformers and power supplies in active components such as amps. The Shunyata Triton and Typhon are passive devices, containing neither transformers that can induce vibration nor capacitors that are adversely impacted. This is not to say these components are unaffected by internally-generated or air-born vibration and do not benefit from isolation, but imo they are not as directly impacted as powered conditioners. My limited understanding says the NICs in both the T & T release energy as heat and I speculate that vibration of their ferromagnetic material could possibly result in friction that mitigates that function to a degree and thus isolation devices could help the NICs be more efficient. Reduced vibration between cord connectors and input sockets is another positive. Be that as it may, my sense finds positive contribution from using the Stillpoints under the Shunyata devices. I believe Shunyata's general recommendation for mounting the Hydras is to use a 'hard' device rather than something pliable or squishy (eg. sorbothane pucks), and they do sell threaded metal feet to replace the soft bumper feet. I also received their suggestion to try the Stillpoints for further improvement. UltraMinis under Typhon Last edited by tima; 11-06-2014 at 01:56 AM. |
