Default Hummingbirds

From my back yard. I grab a cup 'o Joe in the AM, set the 400mm f2.8 and D800 on a tripod, pull up a lounge chair, put on some mellow music (there are speakers on the deck), and contemplate life's wonders. I also keep a D600 with a 300mm f2.8 (VR) on a table nearby if they wander around a lot; I can sometimes track them from flower to flower, handheld.

I'm out there so much they ignore me while I'm shooting. Often times, they will come in and buzz around my head while I'm pruning flowers. I am anxious for warmer weather and their return.

Great shots!
Our neighbor has a hummingbird feeder and they visit us all summer for our various flowering plants. Aggressive little critters, chasing each other around. We no longer put up a feeder as we travel too often during the summer, though this one may be different.

Great pics! Hummingbirds are intelligent creatures. Their brain is larger in comparison to body size than any other bird and their memory is terrific.

We have a pair that has been visiting us for the last 4 years and they always make their presence known as if to say hello in the spring, even if the feeders are not out yet. They will hover near the windows looking in and if my wife is out on the deck, they will fly right up to her to get her attention and remind her that the nectar treat should be offered.

I love ‘em. I have a big picture window that looks out into my deck and they’ll hover motionless in front of it, mesmerized by their own reflection.

Terrific photos - my wife in the past year has taken up bird photography in a big way with her Olympus OMD-EM1 so much I got her the mk3 version when it came out. We get lots of big raptors and wading birds down here, but she gets a ton of joy from capturing the smallest terns and plovers as well. Thanks for posting!
