Any Rand's “Atlas Shrugged.” I have been working on it for nine months but am almost there! Awesome book, but some sections are very tough to get through.

Frederick Allen's "The Lords of Creation", which is something of an economic history of USA from the 1890s forward.
James Duffy's "Lincoln's Admiral" (David Farragut) in the on-deck circle, followed by Evan Thomas' "Ike's Bluff".

Skillful narrative account of the war in western Europe during the final year of World War II.

Jim, I'd like to read that trilogy, and enjoyed his "The British are Coming". The rap on his WWII trilogy is that he's very prejudiced against Patton - what is your takeaway on that?

On the other side of WWII, I'm re-reading "The Conquering Tide", 2nd of 3 volumes by Ian Toll about the sea war in the Pacific. His 3rd volume just came out, and it's been quite a while since I read the first two volumes when they came out.

His treatment of Patton strikes me as balanced, in line with his treatment of the other major commanders, British as well as American. I think that is, as much as anything else, a reflection of the extent and depth as well as his interpretive grasp of his sourcing, which I find impressive.

I'll have to give that a look.

Currently reading "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand. I am a few chapters in and it's excellent so far.

Conquest of the land through 7000 years. Were al gonna die. So funny. Humans are worse at adapting to our environment than pretty much any animal out there.

I enjoy Paulo Coelho books and have been a fan since I read "the Alchemist"
back in the '90s. It's been a while since I've read one of his books.

I have preordered and looking forward to the new book "The Archer". Should be released this month.

In The Archer we meet Tetsuya, a man once famous for his prodigious gift with a bow and arrow but who has since retired from public life, and the boy who comes searching for him. The boy has many questions, and in answering them Tetsuya illustrates the way of the bow and the tenets of a meaningful life. Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfill, that a life constricted by fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living. Instead one must take risks, build courage, and embrace the unexpected journey fate has to offer.

With the wisdom, generosity, simplicity, and grace that have made him an international best seller, Paulo Coelho provides the framework for a rewarding life: hard work, passion, purpose, thoughtfulness, the willingness to fail, and the urge to make a difference.
