Mahler - Symphony no. 3
Budapest festival Orchestra, Iván Fischer
Gerhild Romberger, alto
Cantemus Children's Choir, Dénes Szabó (choirmaster)
Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Peter Dijkstra (artistic leader)

First listen to this.
So far so good; seems a magnificent performance and the 5.0 sound is utterly great.

We're just back from a concert with the Budapesters.
Bluebeard's Castle from Bartók.
Terrific, very powerful experience.
Tomorrow and Saturday there will be more.
They always perform 3 consecutive days in May.
We're aficionados!!

Some nice chamber music into the practice this forenoon:

I'm sure Julian will approve.

This series remains a reference.

CD 6: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons & Other Concertos

Amandine Beyer is fabulous here.
This disc includes some world premier recordings.
Invigorating performances.

Stravinsky - Rite of Spring - Firebird Suite - Scherzo - Tango
Budapest Festival Orchestra, Iván Fischer

Fantastic recording and performance!
A joy to hear them in our living room.

Just back from a 3rd concert with the Budapesters.
Yesterday we saw and heard 'The Wooden Prince', today 'The Miraculous Mandarin', each time with an introduction in impeccable Dutch (today even a lecture performance with the whole orchestra before the pause), and then the piece with wonderfully choreographed dance.
A feast for ears, eyes and soul.
Fischer is the best advocate of classical music you can imagine.
The not negligible presence of young people in the concert hall is proof of that.
Go and see them!

Default What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?

Schubert: Polonaise; 5 German Dances & minuets; Ronod; Concerto Movement
Chamber Orchestra of Europe
DG (2016), disc 6 from the 39-disc box set "Schubert: The Edition 1 - Orchestral, Chamber, Piano."

This is turning out to be a very good set overall. This disc has some lovely pieces on it, with solid performances and good sound.

I'm about to queue up Szell's interpretation of Brahms piano concerto Nr. 1 with Sir. Clifford Curzon and London Symphony on Tidal right now (I'm abroad and will be listening to them on my bose noise-cancelling headphones, yeah, I know...)

Fantastic recording and interpretation by two great MASTERS of their craft! I'm a total sucker for anything George Szell!

Parsifalcor, welcome to the classical thread, and nice choice for your first post here. It doesn't matter how you're listening, we're always glad to have insights into great classical recordings.

Thank you for the welcome! There is something so magical about the perfect blend of sublime artistry and the (in my opinion) the finest engineering and most emotionally satisfying recording techniques ever committed to disc...

I've now moved on to the Brahms 2nd piano concerto with Wilhelm Backhaus and Karl Boehm conducting the Vienna Philharonic. The 'side B' of Mozart 27 is heavenly, as well!
