Listening to . . . Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Donaueschingen Harmoniemusik of the Abduciton from the Seraglio K. 384
Wind Ensemble of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields - Bastiaan Blomhert, Director The disc contains ad harmonic arrangement that Mozart made of the music from his opera "The Abduction from the Seraglio" for wind octet (2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons). I find the music to be quite interesting, and on this, my first listen, I am impressed by the quality of the performance and the sonics of the very fine Pentatone recording. I've only heard the opera performed once, so the music is not overly familiar, but I am enjoying it.s It won't be my last listen - Recommended.d

While using a piano instead of an organ might not appeal to purists, I vastly prefer it! True, it lacks the color of an organ, but I just like the clarity it provides. Zesty performances and crystal clear sound.

I have been listening to Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique preformed by Sir Collin Davis and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on Phillips from 1974.
This is a reference performance with sensational sonics, and it has made my evening! This is only ONE of the 55 discs in the Phillips Original Jackets Collection Box Set I purchased recently, and I'm looking forward to digging deeper into this set. I've purchased a number of these box sets this year. Has anyone else been indulging? Ted.

No I have not. Is the Pentatone SACD still available and have you heard the 24-bit RB remaster I'm referring to? Ted.

I just got this from CDJapan
Bruckner: Symphony No.9 [SHM-CD] Carlo Maria Giulini, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra I was very pleased with the Bohm/VPO/Bruckner No.4 SACD SHM-CD I bought from CDJapan, so I decided to try this redbook SHM-CD, rubidium clock cutting remaster of one of my favorite recordings ever. I'm happy to report that this version of the mighty Bruckner D-minor symphony is an improvement over the previous releases I had of this disc. With this remaster there is more low-level detail which reveals previously unheard nuances from this interpretation. The detail is so fine that I now hear audience and stage noises I had not noticed before. Not distracting at all, but just makes the whole listening experience so much more real. The price was not bad at under $15. Bruckner: Symphony No.9 [SHM-CD] |
