Sonos Releases a Touchscreen Music Controller

The new CR200 Sonos Touchscreen music controller is a response to the popularity of the Sonos iPod app released last year. For those who want the navigation of the app, but who don’t have an iPod or iPhone, the features are in the CR200. Users can scroll through their own music library with just a touch and slide, or they can browse music offerings from services such as Last.fm, Rhapsody, Pandora, Napster and Sirius satellite radio.

This controller can be purchased as part of a Sonos bundle or on its own. The controller allows users to play one song in several rooms or many songs to play in different rooms, and group zones or control their volume separately. It includes three hard buttons, mute and volume up and down, and a 3.5-inch color VGA screen.

klipschfan.......I saw this the other night on their site. $349.00. An iPod touch is a better way to go I think. I am using the iPod Touch for the ZP90 in the main system, and the Sonos CR100 controller for the ZP90 in the studio, and for the ZP120 that drives my deck speakers outside. The best part about the iPod Touch is the keyboard for searches, verses the touch wheel interface on the Sonos CR100 controller. It is much faster to type in information than to dial in one letter at a time with the touch wheel.

I will stick with my MacBook Air or iPod Touch. The original remote is really poor for searching and usually just sits in the cradle.

I'll stick with my semi-dedicated iPod touch for a controller. But giant kudos to Sonos for making - and not killing - the iPod touch free controller even though it's obviously eating into their potential revenue from their custom controller.

Smart thinking IMO.

Good point. In general I have liked how SonoS had handled everything.
