A fascinating if densely detailed read all the way through. Good choice.

Critique of Pure Reason: Emmanuel Kant.

I have been a student of philosophy since high school. While I minored in philosophy in college… and rejected the metaphysical foundation of all philosophers… I worked on my own foundation for forty years. Having come full circle… it is really interesting to reread this seminal work… with a lifetime of observation and effort in perception in the world… and the findings of evolutionary and developmental psychology… with MRI studies of the brain. Consciousness, metaphysics, and epistemology has taken such huge strides in the last fifty years it is incredible. Like astronomy… I can snap photos of the Andromeda galaxy better than Mount Palomar was capable when I was young.

And yet, society act as prejudice and ignorant as they did during the Roman Empire and before. Progress? Really perplexing.

A newly-published paperback reprint of Raymond Garthoff's comprehensive 1954 U.S. Air Force-sponsored RAND Corporation study of Soviet military doctrine early in the Cold War. It replaces a worn hardcover copy read during my grad school days long ago in a galaxy far, far away and lost somewhere in the ancient-history throes of one divorce or another.

Am about to plunge into it again as part of a self-indulgent project studying the evolution of Russian military doctrine from World War II to the present day. Heady stuff, so I don't expect it to be a quick read.

I look forward to your thoughts.

Just finished "Chip War" by Chris Miller.
Good history of semiconductor development from its inception shortly after WW2 thru last year (written in 2022).
Has a good coverage of the development and state of modern weapons of war.
If you are only interested in why China is the enemy (of all free countries) start reading at chapter 42. Or, for what they are doing today (worldwide), start at chapter 50.
We should be especially worried about our high-end gear as more & more (especially British companies) move their production to China. Very sad.

Just finished Kevin Maney's "The Maverick and His Machine: Thomas Watson, Sr. and the Making of IBM". Interesting history/biography of Thomas Watson Sr & Jr and their growing IBM into what it became in the 20th century.
Was prompted to read as our grand-daughter is graduating from GWU next May and has all ready been hired (she is quite the academic & leader) by IBM before starting her last semester and starting grad school.
