So how big was the difference between the 5.4s and 802s?

I also love Dyns. Much more than BW. More musical to my ears.
Only downside to me is that, like PMC's, they do not sound as "live" as some others....

Very true as far as live sound goes.

When a concert is LIVE the mids are very forward since that is the most sensitive human hearing range. They can make if very loud with little power so to speak.

So the Dyn's are more laid back, it is like sitting 3//4 way back from the stage in terms of the mids. You can always boast your mid setting on the preamp if you like that sound.

But I feel they are more true to what music sounds like in a studio or an unplugged acoustic concert.

These speakers brought detail to my ears that I had not heard with my 802s without any harshness. They are analytical and smooth at the same time. I know which brand will replace my system now
What did you like about Dynaudio over PMC?

Ha, looks like we both had the Dynaudio's around the same time period. I was enjoying a pair of 72SE's with BAT VK250 and VK31SE gear starting a few years before 2008.

Hi Rded,

I thought they were more lively without being bright. They were very spacious under bad demo conditions. I still love my 802s I just like the sound of the dyns better.

WELCOME to AA glad to have you

This was the prevailing view by many members of the Dyn community, evan as late as 2008 when I got first my first pair of Audience 72s. For example, Dyn often demo'd at shows and at dealers with Sim gear, and many owners used Bryston or Sim gear with their personal Dynaudio systems. But that view has changed quite a bit now with Dynaudio NA now distributing Octave tube products in North America, and folks are finding out that Dyns and tube gear really make for a great match, and the "verisimilitude" that tubes bring to the reproduction of music really can make Dyns shine with respect to sounding "live", if by live you mean like sounding like live music.

Stephen
I have the same view as i am using Dyn Contour S1.4 with MC275 with great results...

If you have space for a floorstander, the 380s are really something to die for.

And IMHO the bargain of the Dyn range.

I feel like I'm coming near the end of the break-in on my Contour 1.4's, and I'm extremely happy with the sound, build quality, and looks.
