I have a question that has become rather important to me. Does anyone know in what country the stock McIntosh tubes are manufactured?

If you wish to keep the information off the forum and have it remain strictly confidential please PM me. As a legal professional I fully understand what confidentiality is and I take if seriously.

Hoping someone here can help me with this.

Edit: There is a fair amount of chatter on various forums that they are in fact JJ tubes branded McIntosh. True/False?

As long as they are not Russian, I hope.

This is the reason it's important to me. If they are Russian I will promptly cancel the order. I really need to know.

There aren't many choices for tubes these days. Am guessing all tube gear mfgrs are scrambling to "stock up" or find sources outside of Russia (by far the largest supplier). China (not much better than Russia and with serious production problems) or the Czech/Slovak Republics are your choices. Perhaps with all that is going on the folks at Western Electric will expand their production beyond just the 300b.

Wow, I’m glad I got mine last year! I wish there was a posted current price list showing all of the McIntosh gear.

Default It's Decision Time

Aren’t all of the Gold Lion tubes made in Russia? I know they don’t come stock in McIntosh equipment, I’m just pointing this out because a lot of people like to upgrade their McIntosh tube gear with them including myself. I’ll have to try a different brand of tube that’s not made in Russia the next time I upgrade.

If I understand correctly Electro-Harmonix, Sovtek, Genalex/Gold Lion, Tung-Sol, Mullard and Svetlana are all part of the American company New Sensor Corporation, which owns the world's largest vacuum tube factory, located in Russia.

Your understanding is spot on.

I believe JJs are Slovak. I am mid-way through a Gold Lion upgrade. Although I would not buy anything to be shipped from Russia today, I do think there is a difference between buying the last tubes (or vodka) on US shelves and placing orders for parts yet to be shipped. If the tubes are already at the retailer, you are not sending $ to Russia.

Good point.
