JJ , sounds painful, but I'd encourage you to keep the faith. I haven't heard the D'Yquem's yet, so I can only imagine what they sound like, but I'd think they'd be worth fighting for.
When I bought my Sinhonia's I too experienced a tube failure within months of owning them (yes, an F2a)...only to be followed up by an IC connector shorting out. Both issues were resolved perfectly and I've been issue free for over 3 years. I'd be kicking myself daily if I ever gave up on them. JH et al will get you to a happy place in no time.

Hi Oldgrey,
Just a nitpick correction- the jack did not short, it was physically damaged. An easy thing to do on a low mass jack. Thanks for the words on encouragement. Jonathan |

Will replace the tubes, bias the amps again, check my homes power voltage and pray. It would be nice to get at least a few months out of this next set of tubes. If I thought my wife was high maintenance Shindo amps have put things into perspective. Hopefully things will work out.

JJ,
I am sure its frustrating but in the end it will be worth it as no transistor amp will ever give you the sound that a great tube amp can, I am sure Jonathan will take good care of you. k |

Considering how many tubes I've gone through so far this only makes sense. In the future this will make tube failure a little easier to deal with. I'm grateful these are not the ultra expensive WE NOS tubes I keep having to replace.

My brother has a Cary 300B integrated. He too has had issues with premature tube failure. It is very frustrating.
Keep the faith, I'm sure you'll get it sorted |

"I'm not a big fan of deviating from the stock Shindo tubes, but maybe a different brand of 300b will put your mind at ease. As to high maintenance, tube gear is like car ownership. Care in use and regular maintenance guarantees a long life. Not paying attention to important details and adopting a plug and play attitude leads to problems. Not saying that was the case here, of course, it's simply worth pointing out that owning expensive handmade tube based audio equipment is not a "turn it on and leave it alone" situation. It's a relationship. A 2 way street."
Kev313- With regard to your regular maintenance statement, is it basically biasing the amp regularly in this case? Cheers -Don |
