Default Mac Mini as server

I would like to integrate an extra Mac Mini into my main stereo system to play digital music. Other option would be an iPod into a spare analog input via RCA cable.

Question is (and it is a lazy one) rather than have a monitor on my equipment rack with a keyboard is there anyway to be able to set it up so I could set on the couch and access software wirelessly via a tablet (iPad)?

I am trying to do this without spending money on a dedicated music server system (Sonos ect). I have a Mac Mini just sitting.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Going headless is quick and painless!

If you have an iPad just download the "Remote" app. It's easy to set up and works pretty well. You will need to have a monitor connected to the mini to turn on file sharing, but after the initial set-up the monitor won't be necessary.

First, there is a Mac Mini, and a Mac Mini Server. You want the plain old Mini. Second, you can use it headless, I do. I use remote control for iTunes and, if I need to access the console, Screen Sharing. You can also configure it to use remote desktop.

Remote Control for iTunes is available for all IOS devices.
