Regarding automation, dBpoweramp (reference- with batch rip) and four Nimbie auto loading drives would allow 400 discs to be ripped at once.

https://www.dbpoweramp.com/batch-ripper.htm

Nimbie - Acronova

The time spent on loading, unloading the drives plus any disc errors/metadata issues is something I don't like dealing with. If that resonates with you, there is The service provided by Murfie, https://www.murfie.com , that will RIP, store, and host all your CDs.

If you don't like any of the above, streaming services are the most convienient, low cost of entry, ways of accessing, listening and getting deeper into music. All the metadata, ripping, storing, hosting, and so on is handled by someone else.

Don't be so reasonable. When I started with my CDs, I faced the issue of whether I should be selective or rip everything and I decided that making the choice at any point in time would not reflect how I might/would feel at another point in time. So, I ripped everything including many previously unplayed or long unplayed. The result is that I am discovering and rediscovering wonderful stuff.

So, I am at about 6Tb now and have just begun to make a dent in the SACDs.

That's impressive, but I would expect you to have a large library Kal. I'm only at 865 albums, around 10,000 files or so of CD, Hi Rez, and SACD. Keeps me busy but I'm always adding more. I just love "googling" my own music library. And there is always Tidal to test drive new music before buying/ripping.

Same here. I know it sounds like a cliche` but I am re-discovering music that I haven't heard in quite some time and sounds much better than I remember.

Hi Kal- That is what I meant. "1000+ CDs" means just what you stated. 6TB is a very enjoyable amount and you could spend a long time discovering and rediscovering your music.

This is converse to using subscription streaming media and a sub 1000 CD collection. You spent a great deal of money on your music.

Size (discs/albums) is what used to suggest, to those who ask about servers, as one of the important factors. The bigger the library the less need for subscription media services. Of course you can do it all.

Personally, I use Roon, Tidal, and iTunes. In Roon, I have ~5,000 CDs of my own and ~12,000 "Albums" from Tidal. I would not have spent $120,000 (~$10/CD) on the Tidal albums but it's awesome to lease the music.

Not surprisingly, this is a pretty informed group. We got back into music when we saw an Olive 04HD at our local dealer about 5 years ago. Bought it, no longer use it in the main system, but no regrets. What I did learn, when getting out of the Olive eco-system was that a portable, well-curated library is likely the most valuable part of your audio system. Switched to JRiver, for library management and playback. There are a great number of excellent playback options out there from headless Mac Minis to purpose built servers to consumer friendly devices (Sonos, Bluesound), even smart TV's and DVD players. We use a variety of devices/software in different locations with differing levels of playback fidelity that all access the same library on a NAS. Life is good.
