PCM. I hope to get 24/192 from these discs. Otherwise I'll have to go to plan B. Maybe a Aurrender N100H or buy another BDP 105

If the stripping the Hi-Rez PCM files from the HDMI de embedder works and sounds okay I thought about buying a BDP 103 because I could use the inputs for Apple TV , 4tb hard disk drive and my DirecTV box. That would go into them nicely. That is how I was using the 105 before I sold it. My 14-year-old brainiac and also audiophile, believes that he can build me a Computer that will do all those things decode all those files, and send it to a USB port and get a free app to control everything from my phone or iPad. I showed him various devices that are already premade as in, the Aurrender , aria, Auralic and Silenzio. He says he can build something equal to or better with just what I need for $500 bucks. I am skeptical but curious at the same time.

But to get back on topic, my BDP 105 did tend to hang up and need to be rebooted while using the app. But it was not bad enough that it would keep me from buying another Oppo.

Well it appears to me that most music servers are really computers with a single purpose design. Looking at the specifications on most servers that I have seen, they have fairly modest computer specifications. So don't be too skeptical about what your 14 year old can do.

I doubt that the most advanced music servers do anything more than what my PC does through USB.

Most single purpose music server, Silenzio, Aurrender, W4S, etc., are in essence computers and they rely on you having a tablet as the control unit. Shoot, my Falcon NW Tiki, mounted on Granite sits with my Audio Equipment and is controlled by my Surface Pro 3 from across the room. I could do the same thing with equipment 1/3rd the price, I just already owned these piece and was able to re-allocate them.

I use my 105D as my primary disc player. However, I only play SACDs with it since my CD has been digitized and I use other device for streaming.
While the Oppo can be used as a DAC and can stream music from a server, that is not its forte. In fact, I got so tired with the rudimentary GUI of the Oppo App and freezing issues (when streaming) that I have not even tried again in many months.
The analog output of the 105D is excellent. I use it when playing multichannel SACDs.
