Laser pointer for checking speaker toe?
Looking for something to check speaker toe-in.
I'm thinking it must have a flat surface. I've tried laser levels but they don't work. A pointed beam would be perfect. What does everyone use? |

My dealer brought one over, they work very nicely. I don't believe it was flat though.

Tow pieces of string will work just fine. I use a laser pointer that doubles as a play toy with Smokey. Man does he love to change that red dot! Then when he's all tuckered out he naps for a bit

Let me guess.
You want to have the exact same amount of toe in on both of your speakers ? Is your room perfectly symetric, acousticaly speaking ?

This is what I use for precise speaker positioning...
Bosch DLR130K Digital Distance Measurer Kit - Amazon.com However, the laser source is a tad off-center if you use the built-in tripod mount. I overcame that by taping it on my tripod vertically. Also, if the laser doesn't adequately reflect back from your speaker cabinet (or grill), just tape a flat piece of cardboard on the face of the cabinet. |

I use the Bosch distance measuring for measuring distance from listening position to speaker.
For toe-in, I use the Bosch Pen Line Laser Level. I place it atop a piece of cardboard that I place on top of the speaker. The cardboard has a reference 90 degree line on it. The level then provides a vertical laser line on the listening position to ensure equal toe-in. |

Rather than use a tape measure or laser to quantify something you can't hear, why don't you put on a blindfold and have a friend rotate the speakers for the toe-in so you use your ears to get the sound the way you like?

Toe in should be by ear & not by any measuring/laser device. In some situations, one speaker may be toe'd in/out slightly differently than the other. Best Bob
