In the past when I inquired, my insurance carrier said they believe me when I tell what I own in case of an issue, but I keep serial numbers in the safe deposit box.

My ratio is definitely out of whack, but I bought my place when I was much younger and plan on selling this year to move into a more suitable housing situation.

So... it seems that half of us spent 2% to 10% of the house value on HiFi gear.

In my opinion, a lot of money but not excessive. It's balanced considering that good quality music can easily add 10% to quality of life at home.
