I hadn't thought about that specific Tannoy driver but have certainly though A LOT about one of their Duel Concentric drivers for these cabinets.

I know that a single driver is the simplest approach but wonder if I would get more of what I am looking for by adding a separate tweeter and woofer.

Thoughts???

Single drivers beam up top and lack low end extension. Since your speakers aren't at ear level, this would be a big no no.

Another option, contact Madisound and inquire about this woofer: Seas Prestige A26RE4 (H1411) 10" Paper Cone: Madisound Speaker Store They can help you pick out a tweeter(or use the one in the description) and also have a crossover design service that can design a schematic for you, and even build one for you.

Is this for background music or to be part of your main rig?

Second, those specific speakers are designed to be used with a sub and bass is non-existent below 100hz. http://www.tannoy.com/products/294/D..._V1.06_Web.pdf

Mike.......The Tannoy DCi12 speaker is actually designed to be free standing or mounted on a wall, not in a wall. From what I can see, the bass reflex cabinet for the 12" dual concentric driver is close to the cabinet dimensions of the Barzilay. The dual concentric driver is good to 50Hz, and will fill the round opening in Steven's cabinets. Of course, I have no idea if Tannoy would sell the Di12 driver separately, but it would be worth a try. I think this dual concentric driver would sound excellent in the Barzilay cabinet.

Stephen,

This book may help you avoid making a mistake.

But then, I suppose it does make a great deal of difference if this is to be your daily driver or not!

Hi Dan,

On wall/in wall, both will measure almost the same minus some diffraction depending on the cabinet width.

Here's an example of a driver mounted in a cabinet vs. infinite baffle(on/in wall). The dotted line is mounted on an infinite baffle, the solid line in an enclosure.

According to my local dealer, Tannoy will not sell drivers individually due to the Asian market buying drivers and selling them as bootleg completed speaker under Tannoy's name.

Dan,

I'm not a DIYer, but from what I know (my ears mainly) I would definitely consider field coil units by Jensen, Altec, etc...

Mike.......I might be missing the point you are trying to make. I'm not sure we are discussing the same speaker. The Tannoy Di12 is a dual concentric 12" driver installed in a bass reflex cabinet. This cabinet can be used as a stand alone speaker, or wall mounted. Mounting it to a wall bracket does not make the speaker an infinite baffle or acoustic suspension type speaker. The dual concentric driver is still installed in its own ported cabinet, which to my way of thinking makes the woofer a bass reflex design. My suggestion of using the driver from the Tannoy Di12 seems to be a decent fit to Steven's application in the Barzilay cabinet. Mute point anyway if Tannoy won't sell the raw drivers.

Dan, my point is that specific Tannoy was designed for on/in wall installation, and may sound thin in his application.
