Default HELP ME find the best drivers for this cabinet. PLEASE

Ok, I have decided that I am ready to spend the BIG BUCKS to make these cabinets sound their best.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, to the right person... I need help.

I am not afraid to spend whatever is necessary to make these sound like the best that they can be.

I have more images and I will add dimensions.

Dan,

You bet... if someone can help me find a better driver for this cabinet, you are first in line for the wonderful ALTEC 617 drivers.

Stephen, I used to build my own speakers back in the day with various success. Some of them that I built for friends were actually quite nice! If you are really interested in this sort of thing, get a book like this one (available at amazon)

There are plenty of driver, cabinet and crossover suppliers out there but I used to buy from Madisound. Madisound Speaker Components: distributor of loudspeaker drivers and parts for speaker builders.

If I had the space I would like something that uses the Altec 604.

Stephen.......Have you given any thought to a Tannoy Dual Concentric speaker. The 12" dual concentric driver in their Professional Line DCi12 would fit right into your cabinet.

Dan,

There is one, possibly two issues with those.

One, speakers designed for in wall use generally have different bass shelving than speakers meant to be freestanding. An in wall speaker placed in a speaker cabinet can sound very thin due to the lack of baffle step(bass shelving(0-300hz+)).

Second, those specific speakers are designed to be used with a sub and bass is non-existent below 100hz. http://www.tannoy.com/products/294/D..._V1.06_Web.pdf
