Jim...it looks like it has two digital filters: FIR (Finite Impulse Response) and S_DLY (Short Delay). Here is Esoteric's description of S_DLY filter: "32 bit SACD/CD disc player using a dual-mono implementation and AKM 32 bit DACs. AKM digital filter. “S_DLY” eliminates pre-ringing distortion also know as pre-echo effect, natural attack and reverb. A FIR filter option is also user selectable." The only downside I see in the SA-50 from a functionality perspective is that the USB input only supports 16/44 file formats. The USB input in the D-07 DAC supports up to 24/96 file formats. I may try to audition the SA-50 and use an M2Tech HiFace USB-to-S/PDIF converter to connect to it through coax input for computer audio source. Looks like a pretty interesting unit.

Where did you see this regarding the SA-50. I read where Teac discuss the implementation of the 32bit DAC's that addresses the pre-ringing issue on the D-07, but I could not find that the same notes on the SA-50. I see where they discuss options for selecting between the two filters as you describe, but are we sure they are the the same DAC's?

Since both the DAC's in the MCD-500 and Olive 4HD handle up to 24/192 files, I would lean towards the D-07 to address pre-ringing if I hear a significant benefit. I think pairing that with a D-03 would be a great match. The design of the two units is pretty nice too.

Jim...here it is: http://esoteric.teac.com/resources/p...d_features.pdf

The above is a document in the Download section of the Download section of the SA-50 page called "SA-50 conversion settings and features."

Jim...for your purposes the D-07 may still be the way to go anyway.
