Just curious OP, but how much warranty did you have left on the amp before you undertook the DIY fix?

with the exception of warranting the IEC itself, completely non-relevant..

I recently picked up a MC462 and broke my IEC also (my fault, heavy power cord and leaned on it reaching for something). Heard the crack and was worried... more about how I was going to get this beast packaged back up, up the stairs and to a repair center 2 hours away.

Then I flipped the amp, popped off the bottom and realized - no problem I can do this myself.

Didn't want to wait - gorilla glued the tabs, waited 15 minutes, put it back on. No problems since.

I did order a couple new ones for like 15 bucks shipped and I will eventually get around to it, but why take a chance with the glass and moving it if I don't have to.

It is a bit of an interesting design choice.

(In a nutshell, the IEC input is a stupidly cheap, hard plastic piece not fit to be on a $20 hot water kettle, much less a $9000 amp...)

Ouch...
Makes me wonder about all the
expensive cords we buy.

I agree, any cord heavy or stiff enough to break an IEC input is ridiculous. I have gambled with that in the past myself!

Yikes. Just ordered a couple of the Furutech IECs as a backup. Appreciate the info and sharing of details surrounding this solution.

Older thread, but be careful out there folks... Just cracked the IEC on one of my MC611s like that. I'm using big'ol Shunyata Alphas which do put strain on the IEC (will make sure I get some relief on those cables).

So will be spending some time on the MC275 in the living room. The Ohm's I've got on it do interesting things with jazz (listening to more funk/rock lately) -- been meaning to spend some time with the Ohm's. Still interested in Arden/Cornwall/JBL4367 for that spot.
