The steady drumbeat from Belgium of "Saint-Colombe, Saint-Colombe, Saint-Colombe..." finally became like an ear-worm for me, so yesterday I succumbed and downloaded this from Qobuz. And of course Bart is right, this is exceptionally beautiful music.

Haha Tony, I'm glad you like it!
And happy you reinforce the drumbeat.

Meanwhile listening to this:

Huelgas Ensemble - 40 Voices
Paul Van Nevel

We're immersed in heavenly sounds.
The 5.0 mix works like a drug (so does the nice Bulgarian red wine...).

Michelangelo Rossi - La poesia cromatica
Huelgas Ensemble, Paul Van Nevel

It was a premiere recording in 2009.
Paul Van Nevel is a genius in discovering new old music and seeing the potential of it.
Wonderful 5.0 recording.
And a nice cover.

Default What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?

Haydn: Piano Sonatas, Vol. 1
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, piano
Chandos (2010)
24/96 files

This is an excellent set overall. Bavouzet's playing is commendable and the sound quite good. I've had Vol. 5 of for a while, and just got around to picking up the other 4. Well worth having in the collection.

Listening to what Gramophone lists as the best St Matthew Passion ever:

Bach - Matthäus-Passion
Collegium Vocale, Philippe Herreweghe

It is indeed a wonderful performance. (Recorded in '98).
And his musicians say he's getting better every year.
He needs to record this again.
All 3 CDs in one go!

Listening to some old Flemish music:

Clemens non papa - priest and bon vivant
Capilla Flamenca
La Caccia

Instrumental and polyphonic pieces, by a composer from the period Clemens was pope, and he added "non papa" to his name to make the difference.

This album might be not to everybody's taste here.
The style is still echoed in ensembles that perform folk music here.
