Buck, as usual you've generated a good conversation, and I just went through this thread again. It's cool to see what we wrote back at the beginning of the year, and then see what we actually did in the audio realm.

For us, the year did and didn't go according to plan - spent more than I planned to, but what the heck (somehow I have the feeling I'm not the only one here...). We finished the new house, and we're enjoying it greatly. A real regret is that I was hoping to have Dan come over since we're not too far from where he lived.

- Switched out Mc C2500 pre to C1100
- Added Aurender N100C music server
- Added Schiit Yggdrasil as DAC for the Aurender
- Re-purposed old Benchmark 1 DAC for Mac Mini
- New Sony 80" TV
- Wireworld cabling

Much of the above was, let's say, intended at the beginning of the year if not explicitly planned. The Aurender/Yggy combination has been a hit, and The C1100 is a dream come true.

Unplanned was the return of 24-year-old 80BJr from the west coast, whose software engineering job and company allows him to stay here until probably mid-2021 when all the Covid crap hopefully blows over. Luckily, the new house was built to include a second floor with a piano room and guest suite for him to have space if he ever came back and wanted to spend a bit of extra time over the holidays. We just never figured it would be under these circumstances. So he just got new Audeze LCD-3s, which we really like, and he's got a Schiit DAC and HP amp on the way to power them in my office, which he has taken over. I decided to get the same cans, as well as a Bluesound streamer (which I'll use as a Roon endpoint) and Feliks Audio Euforia HP amp, all of which are on the way. Never would have guessed that I would have seriously gotten into headphones but with young Paul here and both of us having some gear, we will be able to play with comparing different setups, which is something that is normally difficult to do in real world circumstances.

Of course, Boss-girl, my partner in crime for a lot of great listening sessions, will have something under the Christmas tree, with Apple's new headphones that came out today, something I think will pleasantly surprise her. Better than jewelry, LOL!

2020 was a big year for me. I upgraded my processor, added a new (to me) preamp, upgraded all of my cables, replaced my speakers, added power conditioning, replaced my music server, and added a DAC. Not sure what 2021 will hold if anything.

It was a big year for me too. The old girl's warmed up now, the prose should flow.

Too early, lots of open ends. Maybe late Q1.

Having only”rejoined” this group a couple months ago, I started 2020 with no plans regarding audio for 2020. My system is in a bonus room that I have rarely been in since moving into this house in 2015. I might even say that system was turned on a few times a year for a few hours. For most everyone, COVID has created a year to remember. For my wife and I, COVID has been the least of it. Our son in law passed away unexpectedly in April, leaving his 25yo wife with 3 boys, ages 6,3 and 1. They lived in Phoenix, but by early June, they all ended up here on Lake Norman with us. As empty nesters, it’s been a big adjustment. My wife is basically raising the boys, and we no longer have the freedom to do what we want, when we want. I rarely saw my boat this year. And I, a healthcare executive used to traveling, find myself in a very busy, noisy, disheveled home that used to be perfectly “everything”! So, while not actually a plan, I have rejoined this group, ordered the C-2700 as an upgrade for the new MC cartridge on my turntable, a better DAC for streaming Tidal and Qobuz that I hadn’t yet experienced prior. Next week, the nearly 10 yo 55in Samsung will be replaced by an 85 inch TV. Because of a delay in getting a MVP 901 due to McIntosh factory delays, I have in shipment one from Audio Classics that is rated a B1. I’m particular, so hopefully will meet my expectations. I also recently purchased a completely refurbished and refabricated Revox PR 99 mkiii, so making tapes and learning how to use that has been fun. So, I now have a place for myself, quiet, comfortable, and filled with multiple ways to enjoy the music I’ve always loved. And the boys love it too, when I let them up! Needless to say, I’m very thankful for being here for my family, and that we haven’t had close ones affected by COVID. Thanks for listening. Jim
