Cables Make a Difference?
Do you think good cable upgrades improve sound quality, or are you from the wire is wire camp? Please share some of the details from your listening experience such as brands, models, gear, what you did or didn't hear, etc...

Wow a year or so ago I would have definately chosen the second choice above that wire is wire. Infact you could say I have a reputation as being the forum skeptic . I found that the monster cables and audioquest cables I tried to be pretty much simillar in sound quality, not bad but not holy cow this is better. Ivan has opened my eyes with the wireworld cables I have tried. I have been using wireworld equinox balanced cables and Ivan loaned me a pair of wireworld silver eclipse cables I could hear a big difference. The silver eclipse 5 presented a much brighter sound with less accentuated bass. The equinox 6 had less treble, slightly smaller sound stage, more bass. I ended up not buying the silver eclipse but I was able to hear a difference with my own 2 ears, imagine that Dan. The power cables I tried going to my MC501's from the PPP did not make a difference I could discern.

Even if you go back to the starting point, all wire is not the same. That said, it is what they do with it afterwards is what can change the sound.

I was personally shocked when I saw David's post and vote... so much so I had to check to see who voted for what...
Yes - they make a huge difference; my personal view is that power cables make the single most difference in a component sounding "meh, ok" to sounding "f'ing amazing."

Changing cables can also emphasize a negative characteristic of your system such as brightness. It would be nice to have the convenience of being able to try several brands and quality levels in our home system before making the cable decision. I was most suspicious of the effect a power cable would have but, I learned quickly, and now have replaced most of my stock cords.
I vote "Yes" that cables do make a difference. |
