Leclerc spoke like getting past Norris will be relatively easy. Perhaps something was lost in translation. We'll see shortly.

My thought is it won't matter. Checo will likely starting passing folks straightaway after the start, and he may podium.

Yep, I agree. It is what it is, I guess. Personally, I think the FIA's become a bit too "controlling", in some respects. I remember watching F1 GPs in the past where Senna was constantly punting other drivers off the track, and virtually nothing was done about it.

Ha! Yep, life on the Left Coast.

As a side note: we've been gettin' SLAMMED with precipitation this rainy season; both rain in the main part of the state, and snow in the Sierras. It's all good though, as we need the water for our reservoirs. CA was in an extreme drought situation there for a number of years until the absolutely massive amount of rain and snow we got in 2023, and that has continued this year with the El Niño event we're having. So....it's all good.

With Max & Hamilton DNFs, it was a bit closer at rhe front, but other than pit stops, no more exciting than usual. Even P10 was a lap down.

I agree, it was a “processional race” after Max’s retirement. Russell sure had a big shunt.

Did not expect the race to have Max & Louis out -- without either causing the other to be DNF. Max's troubles began early -- maybe contaminants destroying at the right rear at prerace lap & soon overtaken by Saintz before end of lap 1 (Max reported being loose -- Saintz dropped DRS & overtook).

Glad to see Saintz win and a 1-2 for Ferrari (last was 2022 in Melbourne (??). Couldn't have been happier with McLaren's Norris and Zak Brown too.

The top 5:

2. Charles Leclerc Ferrari +2.366
3. Lando Norris McLaren +5.904
4. Oscar Piastri McLaren +35.770
5. Sergio Perez Red Bull +56.309

Agreed on all points. I also really like Martin's commentary. I've followed his career since 1983 when he was dueling for the British F3 Championship with Senna. I also remember a terrific drive he put in at the Detroit Grand Prix in '85 driving in F1 for Tyrrell. IIRC, he finished 2nd.

Also saw him drive in-person at Sears Point in the IMSA race in 1988 when he was racing for Tom Walkinshaw's Silk Cut Jaguar IMSA team. He went into T1 at Sears at 170 mph and...the brake lights never came on. I've never seen anyone drive at Sears (now Sonoma) faster than that. Just an amazing drive.
