So, since I think I had the first LP-71a built I am going to go totally hyperbole here and agree with what Dennis says about this line stage! I have been in this game for over 40 years and the SQ I hear from the LP-71a and current iteration of his 45 amp is simply stunning! Now I will say my upstream gear probably has a lot to do with the synergy I have going on... but in all my years and "THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS" of rolling gear in and out I have to say this is a very, very special piece of gear. I'm not good with all of this audiophile speak but I just had to comment. Stunning, absolutely stunning!
About to send back to Dennis for an upgrade that lowers the noise floor even more...and rebrand it the 20/30 or whatever he is calling it?! What is the difference between the model 71 preamp and the current l-2030 on eBay

Name only. The more dennis rolled tubes in this pre circuit, the more he liked the 201 and 301 battery radio tubes from the 1920s and 1930s. I think LP-2030 sounds so ahead of its time, whereas the SLP98 and 05 are so past tense. [emoji6] |

So, can the LP-2030 also use the 71a?

I see that Dennis has been building a lot of "KT88" amps.
Are these actually any different than the "6FLV" amps he was selling a few months ago? I know both amps can use tubes from the 6F6 to KT170. I guess he could label these amps as any tube he wanted, as EL34 amps, as 6L6 amps. |

Has anyone used it with high efficient speakers and if so was there any hums or any buzzing.

Yes, O1a, 71a, 201a, 301a. Dennis even got the short pin NV type to run with great success using a tool to spread the pins if I am not mistaken. |

I am sure Straitwire can elaborate further but the biggest difference between the two amps I am aware of is the OPTs. Tailor windings for the tubes on the faceplate but still able to run the lot. |

I’ve used all with great success. Cunningham 301’s blow everything else out of the water.

I already have my LP71A preamp, but unfortunately I have not been able to enjoy it yet. Dennis is rebranding them the LP 2030 in reference to the the 1920s and 1930s from whence these tubes originated. If I understand him correctly.
I will be also sending it back for a rebranding and maybe a modification if possible. To read what some of you have said about this preamp, along with Dennis's comments, I am becoming increasingly excited about getting it back and enjoying it. |
