While I was shopping for a new DAC, I had the opportunity to compare the Yggdrasil and the PS Audio DSD in my system. A good friend of mine owns the Yggdrasil and was kind enough to loan it to me. While both DACs are very good, my friend (Yggi owner) and myself prefered the PS Audio DS DAC (Huron firmware). Granted, the PS Audio is a more expensive DAC but difference in sound was worth the money so I went with DS DAC. If my price point was limited to ~$2k the Yggi likely would of made it into my system.

I've heard from some of the gang at SBAF that have done extensive DAC comparisons that the PS Audio Directsream DAC with Huron is quite good and is comparable to Yggy (or Yggy is comparable to the DS, depending on your POV), and that some folks might prefer the DS. The consensus was that which DACs is preferred comes down to personal taste, to some degree. Some of the guys at SBAF found Yggy to be too forward for their tastes, though this was very dependent on content and recording/mastering quality, while others really liked it, in particular for jazz, vocals and classical content. The other DAC that folks liked at SBAF was the Holo Audio Spring DAC, which is NOS. Neither of these DACs come with a 5 year warranty, AFAIK.

Just curious, kaarmstrong, were you using the USB input or SPDIF? Just curious if you were using the USB input, and if so, if you had heard it with the new Gen 5 USB, which significantly improved the sound quality when using the USB interface.

PC, I used both USB and SPDIF. I am aware there can be a difference. I agree personal preference plays a big part along with system synergy. Which is why I said I prefer, not that one is better than the other. This was my first hand experince which I will take over hearsay, magazine reviews or any other second-hand advise. Thanks

Absolutely Dan. It happened to me also.
Waiting to read your review of the Yggdrasil.

A 15 day home trial with a 5% fee if returned is a very low risk exposure in case one is not happy with a Schiit product. Wish all audio purchases could be so risk free.
