In my case, the Bryston SP3 was a much greater improvement than the BIT 20. But, I was coming from a Shunyata Hydra8 that sounded very good already, and had recently added two dedicated 20 amp power lines for the HT. So, the comparison may not be fair.

I went to the BIT-20 because it offers series mode surge suppression, while the Shunyata offers none.

I was thinking between the BP26 v the BIT20. The SP3 seems to be in another league.

Well, it depends on what you're stepping up from. I haven't heard a BP26, but if it's a Bryston, I'm sure it sounds great.

Does your power need cleaning up that bad, and are you protected from surge? I think in terms of components, a good pre amp is one of the most critical. If you don't have severe issues with your power, I'd start there.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't currently have a pre-amp. I don't believe I have power supply issues. So I'll go with my first impressions is to go with a pre-amp.

Your point on series-mode surge suppression is well taken, moonhawk. I use an APC S20 for our source components because of its battery backup, as we get occasional brief power outages, just enough to have to reset gear. Yet, I'm not a fan of the MOV design.

For our outboard components, two subs and the TV, I use the Brickwall series-mode surge protectors. The two-outlet audio model is quite compact. These are very handy devices.

My 6BSST(C) and two 4BSST(C) amps just plug into a dedicated 20-amp circuit, so I'm interested in your experiences with the BIT, as my Bryston gear is similar to yours. Would one BIT 20 handle all three amps?

Best fishes,

Rich

Hi Rich

My BIT-20 handles a Parasound Halo A51 and all my source components, plus the TV. That is all on one dedicated 20 amp circuit. My three subs are on a second dedicated 20 amp circuit, split between 2 outlets, each outlet protected by a Zerosurge 2 outlet 20 Amp surge protector.

I don't know if I've heard much difference coming from a Shunyata, but I know nothing is starved for juice, and everything is protected.

Are we related, Dave?

Like your three subs, my two Velodyne subs are on a second dedicated 20-amp circuit. The Brickwall and Zerosurge seem to be clones as well.

As Dame Edna would say . . . spooky.

Looks like time to check out the BIT-20.

Rich

Zerosurge hold the patent. Brickwall, Surgex, Torus and others license the technology from them.

Thanks for the info, Dave. I was aware of Zerosurge, Brickwall, and Surgex, but not Torus. What's the current relationship between Bryston and Torus (I recall that Bryston used to sell the Torus gear)? Are the BIT units upgraded Torus equipment?

"Are the BIT units upgraded Torus equipment?"
******
Same Torus equipment with a Bryston faceplate to match other Bryston gear.
