I can't recall what the Oppo's specs are, but my guess is that the Oppo controls the volume in the digital domain. That means that once you get to below 80% of full volume you are going to start losing bits (resolution).

I think Stefan's suggestion is a good one. You need to first eliminate the room correction and anything else in the signal path that is altering/coloring the sound. If the Anthem cannot do direct analog you need to pull that out too. Start with the most basic system and build up from there.

Room correction can make a nice room sound dull if it isn't applied properly.

If you like the sound of the Oppo + Amp + speakers then you may want to consider selecting a neutral pre amp and follow that up with having someone suggest acoustic sound treatments for the room. If you treat the room properly then you can add the SP-3 which doesn't have RC.

Before you hire a pro you can measure your room yourself with ARC and post screen caps of your graphs in the Paradigm forum for others to look at and comment. I don't want to talk about it here any more because it is off-topic! I do not have PM rights either.

Then maybe Bryston needs to use Modwright to design its D/A converter.

It isn't the D/A converter, it is the tubed output stage. The actual D/A is only part of the equation.

Wonderful. Thanks for the response. Proud to be an SP3 owner and a customer of Bryston which stands behind their products and customers.

I know $200 won't break the bank, but having spent $10,000 to purchase the SP3 in the first place, I reckon it wouldn't hurt Bryston to provide this upgrade free of charge to their loyal customers.
