Hi Bill, if you want to start a list, I can help you start- I have a Bryston 3B from when I was in college (I think it was 1984) and a 2B from a year later (‘85).

James - the info on the Bryston website until fairly recently. Why has it been dropped?

Rob..... Yes, I'd love to know more about the history of Bryston Audio (BA). I've been a Mac fan since the late 70s, but I've become increasingly interested in BA, as an alternative, since I first learned about the brand (here on the AAF).

Were the two BA amps you mentioned purchased new? In other words, is it a case where the 3B is actually an older model than the 2B?

I had Quad ESL-63 speakers that were on top of Gradient passive subwoofers specifically designed for that purpose. It was’t about an older vs newer. The 3B puts out more power than the 2B. I was using a relatively small room so the 2B powered the Quads and the 3B was for the subwoofers.

Smile Mono operation?

James..... It's been a while, so I hope that you still get a notification. I have a question about the Bryston multichannel amps and their [possible] use as mono amps.

As I've collected data on the various Bryston amps, I've seen some, like the 7B3 and the 28B3 that are clearly described as being true monoblocks. Others, like the 4B3 and the 14B3 are described as "dual-mono."

The rest of the Bryston amps I've read about seem to be multichannel and, in fact, the 21B3 is described as a "tri-mono" amplifier.

Please forgive the rookie question, but when Bryston employs the word "mono" to describe amps that can drive two or more channels, are they also saying that each channel in the amp can be used solo? Put another way, does each channel in these amps have its own independent power supply?

Once again, thank you for the education...

Hi

Yes - Each channel in the amplifier has its own power supply.

Just to be perfectly clear about this, does that mean that each channel in the Bryston "multi-mono" amps I mentioned can be used fully independently, James?
