Gaming PC
Anyone have any experience with Dell "Alienware" series of desktops and laptops as a "gaming" PC?

Alienware used to be a good gaming system until Dell bought them out.
I usually build my own gaming systems so I don't have recommendations on current prebuilt systems. |

I built my own gaming PC a few years back. Top notch Asus motherboard, top notch RAM, processor, RAID 0 with then top notch WD HDD's, serious cooler/CPU fan, top notch power supply, Dual SLI video cards, etc.. the whole nine yards. It was a great gaming rig but started developing annoying problems like shutting down 3-4 times while attempting to boot up, sometimes during operation... Could never quite figure out the problem, changed the processor, RAM, even motherboard eventually and still had a problem. Got tired of chasing problems and got a DELL.....
Not looking to build again right now... |

I did buy the Alienware X51 and outfitted it with 16GB of RAM, i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, Nvidia 660 GTX video card.
Besides the "cool looking and running" alien case the PC so far has been flawless and trouble free. I downloaded and ran 3DMark06 just to get a feel for the performance and on the first try without disabling anything in the background got a very healthy 27307 score. So far I am having fun with this gaming rig and no regrets. |

But I love Solitare!!!
Actually I use this rig for flight simulation of the radio control kind as well as video games besides the usual net surfing, picture editing, etc... [ame=http://youtu.be/vYhyBEla4Sc]Great Planes RealFlight 6.5 R/C Flight Simulator - YouTube[/ame] |

I just built a MiniITX in an EVGA Hadron case with a GTX650 half size card and an i7 4770K 4th gen on an Asrock Z87E-ITX. I am normally an ASUS guy but thought I would try a Asrock this time. It is smokin fast!! I am a StarCraft, Diablo and Torchlight geek!! Oh and the new SimCity!! |
